Spades, The Trick Taking Card Game

Ranked Game Play

We've added rank to our spades game. Things will change quickly as we go, but for now, playing against the computer scores 4 points while playing against humans scores 8. All player ranks start at 1,400.

Your rank will stay with you from day to day and week to week. Adding this competitive tracking will help you sort the expert from the novice player. It will also help us introduce new levels of spade games.

Your rank goes up or down when you finish a complete game. That means, play until a winner or loser is determined and watch your rank score change. Yes, we added controls to make quitting a game to avoid a rank deduction an automatic penalty of 8 points. We advise that you finish your game and quit at the start of a game not towards the end.

To learn more about our particular game of cards, check out About Rank and Spades News. We will keep updates about the game and website progress. Or go to our main page Spades Online.

Overbooks?

We call them "books" while others refer to them as bags. In spades they are the 13 possible wins during a hand. If you bid or predict you will make 3 books, if you actually make 5, that's 2 overbooks.

To insure that there are no "sandbaggers" players asked that this feature penalize teams that routinely under bid or mis-bid. In games that go to 250, 6 overbooks will cost you a 100 point deduction. In 500 point games, it is 10 overbooks.

The object of the games is for teams to bid as close to the number of books they think they will make. The strategy is exciting and fun. We are sure you will enjoy this feature. Hosted tables are new and allow players to kick and ban players for any reason.

Spade Rules and Edicate

Playing games online can be tricky. You should know what others expect. Try to play fast and know the rules of the game. Beginners should play at the beginner level or at least tell the other players, "I'm new at this game."

If you've never played before, play at a table alone(Table 5 or 6) until you get the hang of it. Computer players will help improve your skills and they won't complain about slow play or mistakes. They will have you playing the game like a pro in no time.

Game host should not Kick or Ban for any reason. Slow play, foul language or terrible play are good reasons. Even the dreaded double seating. But host should be courteous and fair. Nor should host Misdeal just for a better hand. See Kick and Misdeal for more details.
